research overview

  • Prof. Raj is engaged into two areas of research: (i) Flash Sintering and Related Phenomena, and (ii) Polymer Derived Ceramics (PDCs). He collaborates actively with institutions and Germany, Italy, Spain and Brazil. Exchange of students and senior scientists leads to publications in refereed international journals. In 2021 he has co-authored 16 publications and 2 patents. A paper in the American Ceramic Society in 2021. His research group fluctuates between 3 to 6 students and post-docs. He works closely and passionately with members of his research group. The work on flash sintering has evolved into new directions: (i) reactive flash sintering where the constituents of a multicomponent ceramic can be mixed elementally and flashed to yield fully dense single phase ceramic in a few seconds as low temperatures. This development can lead to new materials discovery. (ii) Flash sintiering of metals: tungsten. (iii) Ultrahigh conductivity graphene-infused-copper
