research overview

  • Professor Hernandez's research characterizes airborne microbiological biological agents, indoors and out. During 2022 this continued to include bioaerosol and coronavirus assessments in the lab and in the field. Current bioaerosol exposure studies includes characterizing the indoor environment public school systems across the State of Colorado. Bioaerosol work includes the biological air pollution in disaster zones (Hurricane land falls, major metropolitan flooding, and wild fire aerosols). Professor Hernandez remains active in the characterization and control of microbially induced corrosion of wastewater infrastructure as well as designing systems for the recovery of renewable natural gas from wastewater treatment plants .
