Professor Hernandez's research characterizes airborne microbiological biological agents, indoors and out. During 2025 this continued to include bioaerosol, surfactant and allergen assessments in the lab and in the field. Bioaerosol exposure studies includes characterizing the indoor environment public school systems across the State of Colorado. A continuing collaboration with a commercial laboratory has commissioned the largest bioaerosol testing chamber in North America (< 8000 cubic feet). And a new collaboration with the Colorado State NSF center on outdoor bioaerosol characterization resulted from my 2023 sabbatical (NSF BII BROADN: Aerobiome Research Center) Professor Hernandez remains active in designing and deploying systems for the recovery of renewable natural gas from wastewater treatment plants.
