Professor Hernandez's research characterizes airborne microbiological biological agents, indoors and out. During 2023 this continued to include bioaerosol, surfactant and allergen assessments in the lab and in the field. Bioaerosol exposure studies includes characterizing the indoor environment public school systems across the State of Colorado. A new collaboration with a commercial laboratory has commissioned the largest bioaerosol testing chamber in the United States (< 8000 cubic feet). And a new collaboration with the Colorado State NSF center on outdoor bioaerosol characterization resulted from my 2023 sabbatical (NSF BII BROADN: Aerobiome Research Center) Professor Hernandez remains active in the characterization and control of microbially induced corrosion of wastewater infrastructure as well as designing systems for the recovery of renewable natural gas from wastewater treatment plants .
