Monika Fleshner’s integrative research program focuses on understanding 1) the impact of acute and chronic stressor exposure (mental and physical) on behavior, neural, hormonal and immunological function; 2) how such systems interact to affect the whole organism; and 3) the mechanisms of increased stress robustness (resistance/resilience) produced by exercise, prebiotics and cannabis constituents.

IPHY 2010 - Seminar in Integrative Physiology
Primary Instructor
-
Spring 2020
Introduces a small group of lower-division students to current research topics in integrative physiology. Emphasizes relevant applications to real-world situations. May be repeated up to 6 total credit hours when topics vary.
IPHY 4600 - Immunology
Primary Instructor
-
Spring 2018 / Spring 2020 / Spring 2021 / Spring 2022 / Spring 2023 / Spring 2024
Studies the immune system, a multi-cellular system that functions to protect us from disease. Introduces concepts associated with the development and function of individual cells of the immune system (T-cells, B-cells, neutrophils, dendritic cells, macrophages), as well as their integrative roles in physiology and host defense. This course requires a conceptual understanding of the material and emphasizes problem-solving skills through case studies. Recommended prerequisite: IPHY 3060 or IPHY 4060. Same as IPHY 5600.
IPHY 4870 - Honors Thesis
Primary Instructor
