Teaching

courses taught

  • CHEN 1203 - General Chemistry for Engineers 2
    Primary Instructor - Spring 2021 / Spring 2022 / Spring 2023
Designed for students whose academic plans require advanced work in chemistry. Topics include kinetics, solubility/solubility equilibria, acid-bases, buffers and titrations, thermodynamics, and electrochemistry. Examples and problems illustrate the application of chemistry to engineering sub-disciplines. AP Chemistry credit not accepted in lieu of any of these prereq classes. Recommended corequisite: CHEM 1221.Degree credit not granted for this course and CHEN 1211 or CHEM 1133 or CHEM 2100.
  • COEN 1830 - Special Topics
    Primary Instructor - Fall 2023
Explores topics of interest in engineering. Content varies by instructor and semester. May be repeated up to 9 total credit hours.
  • CVEN 4404 - Water Chemistry
    Primary Instructor - Fall 2018 / Fall 2019 / Fall 2020
Introduces chemical fundamentals of inorganic aqueous compounds and contaminants in lecture and laboratory. Lecture topics include thermodynamics and kinetics of acids and base reactions, carbonate chemistry, air-water exchange, precipitation, dissolution, complexation, oxidation-reduction and sorption. Same as EVEN 4404.
  • CVEN 4414 - Water Chemistry Laboratory
    Primary Instructor - Fall 2018 / Fall 2019 / Fall 2020
Reinforces chemical fundamentals of inorganic aqueous compounds and contaminants from CVEN/EVEN 4404 in laboratory experiments and reports. Topics include acids and bases, carbonate chemistry (alkalinity) and other water chemistry characteristics (hardness, dissolved oxygen); precipitation, complexation and oxidation-reduction reactions; and laboratory techniques and reporting. Same as EVEN 4414.
  • CVEN 4424 - Environmental Organic Chemistry
    Primary Instructor - Spring 2019
Examines the fundamental physical and chemical transformations affecting the fate and transport of organic contaminants in natural and treated waters. Emphasizes quantitative approach to solubility, vapor pressure, air-water exchange, sorption, hydrolysis and redox reactions, and photodegradation. Same as EVEN 4424.
