I have expertise in visual journalism, visual storytelling, and documentary production. My skills include videography, lighting, video editing (I'm an Adobe Premiere Pro Certified Associate), Adobe After Effects, Photoshop, Audition, and InDesign. My teaching experience includes Video Documentary (short and long-form), Video News Production, TV directing, TV Newscasts, TV Reporting, Weather Reporting, Science Reporting, Broadcast Writing. I am also a science communicator and a producer of nature and science documentaries with such shows as Zoo Keeper Journal, Space Class and the Emmy-recognised Student Achievement-winning series, CU Science Update, a show that showcases the people behind the science here at CU and the Boulder communities. The foundation of my work is the belief that skills-based education is intellectually rigorous and conceptually grounded when it is intentional, scaffolded, and reflective. Technical instruction is not mechanical training, but a way of teaching students how to think critically, make ethical decisions, and communicate effectively with audiences. My teaching emphasises the integration of practical skills with conceptual understanding, ensuring that students can both execute media work and explain the reasoning behind their choices.By teaching tools within a conceptual framework, I help students develop transferable skills that extend beyond any single platform or technology. Assessment is central to my teaching practice. I use rubrics, structured feedback, peer critique, and revision to help students understand expectations and track their progress.
