research overview

  • Dr. Ehringer's research is aimed at identifying and understanding genetic underpinnings associated with substance use disorders (alcohol, nicotine, opioids). One component of her work is to study variations in the human genes that have been associated with substance use behaviors in order to understand the underlying biology. Her laboratory uses human statistical genetics and molecular approaches to study the biological mechanisms that may be influenced by differences in genes. She also uses rat and mouse models to study genetic factors contributing to substance use behaviors.
