research overview
- My program of research has broadly focused on analyzing the impact of culture on public relations/corporate communication. I have done this by studying public relations practices in different parts of the world of not just corporations, a popular trend in our field, but also non-profits and government agencies and IGOs. The outcome of this line of research is represented by many peer-reviewed publications, including three edited books that have covered public relations practice in over 60 countries across all continents with collaboration from authors who are scholars as well as practitioners. One of these books has been translated to Spanish. A second book is currently being translated to Chinese mandarin. I have extended my program of research now to crisis communication. As a result, in 2024 I compiled an edited volume of crisis communication cases from Asia. I am currently working on an edited volume of global crisis communication cases covering 22 countries from all continents. My over 30-year program of research has resulted in my global reputation as a scholar of global public relations. The Public Relations Review (a premier journal in our field) published an article in January 2021 that reviewed all published research in international public relations between 1983 - 2020 and listed me among the tip five scholars of international public relations. This reputation has resulted in many professioal outreach opportunities for me including serving on the Editorial Board of top journals in the field as Associate Editor, Assistant Editor, and member. Further, I have been invited as external examiner, visiting professor, etc around the world. In December 2024, I spent six weeks in Thailand in 2024 sharing my research expertise with the Faculty of International Studies, Prince of Songkhla University at their invitation. I also was invited by Symbiosis International University in Pune to share my research program with the faculty and students there in July 2024.
