  • FYSM 1000 - First Year Seminar
    Primary Instructor - Fall 2019
    Provide first year students with an immersive experience in an interdisciplinary topic that addresses current issues including social, technical and global topics. Taught by faculty from across campus, the course provides students with an opportunity to interact in small classes, have project based learning experiences and gain valuable communication skills. Seminar style classes focused on discussion and projects.
  • GRMN 2301 - Inside Nazi Germany: Politics, Culture, and Everyday Life in the Third Reich
    Primary Instructor - Spring 2018 / Summer 2018 / Spring 2019 / Spring 2020 / Summer 2020 / Fall 2020 / Spring 2021 / Spring 2022 / Summer 2022
    Examines social culture and everyday life in Nazi Germany. Topics include the role of propaganda in the media and entertainment industries, anti-Semitism and suppression of ethnic, social and religious minorities, the role of education and youth organizations, as well as the role of women, the churches, and the effects of a controlled economy before and during World War II. Taught in English.
  • GRMN 4051 - Critical Theory of the Frankfurt School
    Primary Instructor - Spring 2018
    Serves as an introduction to the "Frankfurt School" and Critical Theory with particular emphasis upon rationality, social psychology, cultural criticism, and aesthetics. Through close readings of key texts by members of the school (Horkheimer, Benjamin, Adorno, Habermas) we will work toward a critical understanding of the analytical tools they developed and consider their validity. Taught in English. Same as GRMN 4051.

    Analyzes artistic and literary engagement with major discussions and debates in contemporary German-speaking societies. Course also provides an introduction to theoretical approaches relevant to the topic. See specific topic description for more details. May be repeated up to 6 total credit hours when topic varies.

  • SPAN 5320 - Seminar: 20th Century Spanish American Literature
    Primary Instructor - Fall 2018
    Treats various topics, as needs and resources dictate. Gives special attention to developing historical and current theoretical and critical background of each topic. Representative topics might include modernism, theatre, the essay, the regional novel, the novel of the Mexican Revolution, the modern novel, contemporary theatre, and contemporary poetry. May be repeated up to 6 total credit hours. Same as SPAN 7320.
