  • Dr. Nytch’s scholarly research is in three areas: 1) Exploring best practices for arts entrepreneurship (“e-ship”) pedagogy; 2) Redefining the role of artists within society; 3) Creating new paradigms for concert performance and audience engagement. The field of arts e-ship is an emerging one with few standards for pedagogy; Dr. Nytch combines mainstream research in e-ship with his experience as a musician to develop an integrated pedagogy for artists. This research actively intersects with his creative work as a composer. Through the application of entrepreneurial principles in his compositional career, Dr. Nytch leads by example and models entrepreneurship in action. He is pleased that the administration of the College of Music has endorsed this synergistic portfolio of research and creative activity as essential to effective leadership of the Entrepreneurship Center for Music.

  • MUSC 2918 - Building Your Music Career
    Primary Instructor - Fall 2018 / Fall 2019 / Fall 2020 / Fall 2021 / Fall 2022
    Develop a broad range of tools needed for a professional career in music. Topics include networking, development and use of promotional materials, funding, social media and the internet and financial management, among others - all taught through an entrepreneurial lens. A range of career opportunities is explored, using the entrepreneurial process to assess and explore a variety of paths and opportunities. Degree credit not granted for this course and MUSC 5918.
  • MUSC 4908 - Internship in Music Business
    Primary Instructor - Spring 2021 / Fall 2021 / Spring 2022 / Fall 2024
    Engage with music/music business organizations in the community (for profit or non-profit) to pursue specific tasks or projects relevant to the student's career goals. A minimum of 48 hours is required per semester for one credit. May be repeated up to 3 total credit hours. Same as MUSC 5908.
  • MUSC 4988 - The Entrepreneurial Artist
    Primary Instructor - Spring 2018 / Spring 2019 / Spring 2020 / Spring 2022 / Spring 2023
    Learn the core principles of entrepreneurship, such as idea formation, venture models, opportunity assessment, market analysis and strategies for launching a venture and apply them to entrepreneurial ideas. Lectures, projects, entrepreneur interviews and case studies will culminate in a feasibility study for an original entrepreneurial concept. Recommended prerequisite: MUSC 2918. Same as MUSC 5988.
  • MUSC 4998 - Music Entrepreneurship Certificate Capstone
    Primary Instructor - Spring 2023
    Completes the Certificate in Music Entrepreneurship. Students will develop an art-based entrepreneurial concept, engage in customer discovery, refine their business model, create a marketing plan, research relevant intellectual property issues, and complete a business model canvas for their venture.
  • MUSC 5908 - Internship in Music Business
