Chesley McColl is a Senior Scientist at CIRES and works in the Physical Sciences Division of ESRL. Chesley supports the research involving historical reanalysis, such as the NOAA-CIRES 20th Century Reanalysis. Recently this has involved the utilization of the NCEP Global Forecast System spectral model to perform AMIP-style analysis. Having these AMIP style analysis to compare to the observational reanalysis has enabled the studying of the effects of the sea surface temperature and sea ice. Also she has created a new data set with observations and model feedback called the International Surface Pressure Databank version 4. Chesley is also supporting the research into the role of the ocean dynamics and surface forcing in driving decadal Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation (AMOC) variability. Which might lead to identifing the common predictable patterns in North Atlantic.
