Overview

abstract

  • This interactive workshop will present data from 10 different studies that have examined the impacts of gendered harassment (sexual and homophobic harassment are included in this category) in U.S. schools. The emphasis will be on important lessons that teachers and teacher educators can draw from this research and which interventions have proven to be most successful in improving the sexual diversity climate in schools. Participants in this workshop will be introduced to current research in the area of homophobic and sexual harassment in schools. In addition to gaining a better grasp of the issues facing students who are targets for such harassment, educators will learn what they can do to effectively intervene and create a safer classroom and school climate for all students.
