I am primarily a poet who is interested in the intersections between aural culture, performance, ecology, and literary history. The experiment in my writing can be seen through my manipulation of language, semantic shifts, multilingual engagement, and queerness. As a poet I also look closely at the cultural productions emerging from Indo-Caribbean communities (and global communities surviving racialized Indian indenture) and translate popular and folk music to expose the often ignored poetic practices. This translation is both academic and literary.

Designed to give students time and impetus to generate poetry and discussion of it in an atmosphere at once supportive and critically serious. Enrollment requires admission to the Creative Writing Graduate Program or the instructor's approval of an application manuscript. May be repeated up to 12 total credit hours.
