research overview
- My research focuses on risk factors associated with age-related hearing loss, particularly cardiovascular disease risk factors. Behavioral and physiological approaches are used, including innovative otoacoustic emission applications. My current work (supported by a grant from the NIH [NIDCD]) evaluates inner ear function associated with hypertension in Black and white adults. I have published research regarding the association between cardiometabolic risk factors and hearing loss in the Hispanic/Latino population and in African Americans. My work has been funded by the American Hearing Research Foundation, Hearing Health Foundation, and CU Boulder Innovative Seed Grant.
