research overview

  • Dr. Twila Moon's research focus is the cryosphere - all things ice - and its interaction with the ocean, climate, and living systems. She uses data from space, the field, and computer simulations to understand ice and climate change - now and in the future. Dr. Moon is curious, enthusiastic, determined, scientific, and interested in making a difference through science. Her research most often examines the Greenland Ice Sheet and the Arctic, and areas of her research include: Arctic system science, ice sheet - ocean interaction, ice loss & freshwater flux, ice - ecosystem connections, hydrology of glaciers & ice sheets, and glacier & ice sheet dynamics. Dr. Moon is also a skilled science communicator, working with media, policy and decision makers, business leaders, and the public.

  • Ice-ocean interaction, ice sheets, ice sheet hydrology, ice dynamics, glaciers, system science, science communication, physical and biological environment connections, sea level rise, cryosphere climate impacts
