I am a comparative political economist interested in why different countries pursue different public policies. I have lived and studied in many countries and am interested especially in the ways culture and institutions interact with each other. Recent work has been on tax policy and tax compliance in the USA and other democracies. I have just completed a book, 'Willing to Pay?' which uses laboratory experiments tests citizens' willingness to pay taxes in multiple countries. It is currently 'in press' with Oxford University Press, I am currently writing a book on American politics and history for Yale University Press (under contract).
