Steven Bruns's recent research has focused on the life and music of American composer George Crumb. In the years he has studied Crumb's music, the composer has granted full access to unpublished manuscripts, correspondence, and other archival materials. Bruns has also lectured and published on the music of Gustav Mahler, Alma Schindler Mahler, Stravinsky, and Morton Feldman.
