Dr. Silverstein's research is focused on environmental engineering and biological processes for water quality improvement. A new component of her work is sustainable water systems and statistical analysis of treatment process reliability and resilience. Research on wastewater reliability and resilience has been used by Front Range wastewater utilities to aid decision making about investing in treatment process upgrades to improve reliability of nutrient removal from wastewater. Research on on-site wastewater treatment system (OWTS) performance has been used by coin ty health department con siding changes to OWTS permitting system.
