Approximation methods, including time-independent and time-dependent perturbation theory and variational methods; advanced symmetry concepts including gauge symmetry and spherical tensors; quantum scattering theory; interaction of matter with electromagnetic fields. Recommended prerequisite: PHYS 5250.
