Neural tube defects (NTDs) involve incomplete neural tube closure in embryos, resulting in embryonic death or lifelong health complications. Students will select a gene from a list of candidate human NTD genes and investigate whether its loss leads to an NTD in chick embryos. This course will train students in CRISPR, cloning, embryology, and "softer" research skills such as publication formatting, with the ultimate goal of supporting students' development as researchers. Recommended restriction: Junior or Senior standing.
