A new era in magnetospheric research Journal Article uri icon

Overview

abstract

  • The time has come to study the magnetosphere as a vast three‐dimensional object, by integrating single‐point “direct” observations of satellites and two‐dimensional “remote sensing” observations of ground‐based networks. Both a computer simulation method and efficient data collection from a groundbased observatory network are crucial forsuch integration. An experiment is being conducted to assemble ground‐based data and display it on a real‐time basis at Poker Flat Research Range. Figure 1 shows the Geospace Environmental Data Display System (GEDDS) at Poker Flat Research Range, which will play a vital role in forthcoming international efforts to study the magnetosphere.
