Overview

abstract

  • The Notodontidae (prominent moths) represent a diverse and ecologically important family of Lepidoptera, with approximately 4,700 species described worldwide. Despite their abundance in tropical ecosystems, the biology and life cycles of many Neotropical species remain poorly documented. This study provides new ecological and behavioral records for eight species of Notodontidae from Colombia, including observations on host plant associations, reproductive ; behavior, larval development, and unique defensive traits. Notably, we report the first host plant ; record for Erbessa lindigii in Colombia, the first evidence of orchid pollinia transport by Crinodes ; bellatrix, ultraviolet-induced fluorescence in Rhuda difficilis larvae, and mimicry in the larvae ; of Naprepa flexifera. These findings underscore the value of integrating field observations, captive ; rearing, and community science to expand the biological and ecological knowledge of tropical ; moths.
