In interview, the American sculptor Casey McGuire discusses her work. Following an introductory text, which refers to McGuire's creation of installation works incorporating animal and architectural imagery and film images of her own body, she reports on the influence of her childhood on a farm on her work with reference to her work 'The levitating quality of light' (2008; col. illus.), comments on her reproduction of the quality of light in fishing shanties in the work, and focuses on her long-term involvement in hand-carving and related pursuits noting she continues to make works by hand. She considers her use of techniques used in taxidermy with reference to her sculpture 'Sand mandala: target' (2005; col. illus.), her sculptural film work 'Tripartite' (2006; col. illus.), her video work 'Predator or prey?' (2007; col. illus.), and her installation work 'Haptic wake' (2007; col. illus.), and comments on the origins of her multimedia work 'Slow as...' (2008; col. illus.). She explains her use of obsolete projectors and architectural elements in 'Haptic wake', and describes her current creation of two installation works.
