The article discusses the article "9/11: Changing the Subject" by David Simpson in the previous issue of the journal, with particular focus given to the concept of the nationalistic "subject" conceptualized after the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks and the potential of literary texts to aid understanding and response to contemporary events. The epic poem "The Odyssey" by Homer is offered as an example of a text which illuminates responses to war and revenge, and the concept of cultural production as a means of comprehending events is explored.
