My research focuses on early modern Persian poetry and intellectual history. In my scholarship, I work to bring out the role of Central Asian poets and Sufis (roughly, Islamic mystics) in a broader Persian-speaking world. Questions that I am exploring in this early modern intellectual and literary context include: ways of understanding the relationship between divine unity and temporal multiplicity; the role of intertextuality in generating poetic newness; and theories of the imagination and what it means for poetry to be imaginative.
