Dr. Steinmetz has done extensive research in percussion pedagogical methods for public school band directors. His most recent clinic at the Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic centered around the culture of percussion sections in a school band program. In addition to percussion pedagogy, he has also done research on the organ music of J.S. Bach. His transcription of Prelude and Fugue in D Major for Wind Band was recently published with Murphy Music Press (2019). This was also the focus of his dissertation document at Michigan State University for the completion of the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Wind Conducting.
