  • Daniel's primary research interest is the development, analysis and implementation of fast, stable and accurate numerical algorithms for approximation of partial differential equations arising in engineering and natural sciences. Another research topic Daniel has focused on is the development of artificial boundary conditions that are required to solve time dependent partial differential equations on unbounded domains.

  • APPM 1350 - Calculus 1 for Engineers
    Primary Instructor - Fall 2019
    Topics in analytical geometry and calculus including limits, rates of change of functions, derivatives and integrals of algebraic and transcendental functions, applications of differentiations and integration. Students who have already earned college credit for calculus 1 are eligible to enroll in this course if they want to solidify their knowledge base in calculus 1. For more information about the math placement referred to in the "Enrollment Requirements", contact your academic advisor. Degree credit not granted for this course and APPM 1345 or ECON 1088 or MATH 1081 or MATH 1300 or MATH 1310 or MATH 1330.
  • APPM 4650 - Intermediate Numerical Analysis 1
    Primary Instructor - Fall 2018
    Focuses on numerical solution of nonlinear equations, interpolation, methods in numerical integration, numerical solution of linear systems, and matrix eigenvalue problems. Stresses significant computer applications and software. Department enforced prerequisite: knowledge of a programming language. Same as MATH 4650.
  • APPM 4720 - Open Topics in Applied Mathematics
    Primary Instructor - Spring 2018 / Spring 2020
    Provides a vehicle for the development and presentation of new topics that may be incorporated into the core courses in applied mathematics. Department enforced prerequisite: variable, depending on the topic, see instructor. May be repeated up to 15 total credit hours. Same as APPM 5720.
  • APPM 5600 - Numerical Analysis 1
    Primary Instructor - Fall 2019
    Solution of nonlinear algebraic equations, interpolation, integration, approximation, and numerical linear algebra. Department enforced prerequisite: APPM 3310 or MATH 2130 and experience with a scientific programming language.
  • APPM 5720 - Open Topics in Applied Mathematics
    Primary Instructor - Spring 2018 / Spring 2020
    Provides a vehicle for the development and presentation of new topics that may be incorporated into the core courses in applied mathematics. Department enforced prerequisite: variable, depending on the topic, see instructor. May be repeated up to 6 total credit hours. Same as APPM 4720.
  • APPM 6610 - Introduction to Numerical Partial Differential Equations
    Primary Instructor - Fall 2018
    Covers finite difference, finite element, finite volume, pseudo-spectral, and spectral methods for elliptic, parabolic, and hyperbolic partial differential equations. Department enforced prerequisite: APPM 5600. Recommended prerequisite: APPM 5610 or graduate numerical linear algebra.

    Introduces graduate students to the major research foci of the Department of Applied Mathematics.
