research overview

  • Dr. Costello's work includes both foreign language pedagogy and literature/cultural studies. Her recent research explores the intersections of literature and bioscience in the Soviet interwar period. In general her research interests include 20th century Russian-language literature, literature and science, literature and philosophy, literature and ethics, metafiction, science fiction, transhumanism, and biopolitics. She also publishes and presents on pedagogy and higher education administration.

    For students with no previous training in Russian. Degree credit not granted for this course and RUSS 1050.
  • RUSS 1020 - Beginning Russian 2
    Primary Instructor - Fall 2025
    A continuation of RUSS 1010. Provides a basic introduction to Russian language and life. Covers the basics of Russian grammar; classroom activities develop speaking, reading and comprehension skills. Course will have midterm and final. Recommended prerequisite: RUSS 1010 (minimum grade C-). Credit not granted for this course and RUSS 1050.
  • RUSS 4210 - Topics in Russian Culture
    Primary Instructor - Spring 2022
    Selected topics in Russian literature, film, art and music. Taught in English. May be repeated up to 9 total credit hours when topic varies. Same as RUSS 5210.
