Dr. de Stecher's research engages with American art, in integrated histories of visual culture production. Her areas of expertise include critical museology and material culture studies. Her current research takes a fresh look at 18C trade silver and the intertwined narratives of Indigenous-settler engagement they contain, a project to decolonize colonial archives and center Indigenous voice. Her latest project explores women's histories of the 17th and 18th centuries in the northeastern US and Canada, through study of convent textiles.
