Professor White's research is primarily concerned with the role of coercion, including state-sponsored coercion, in the administration of labor rights in modern America. Much of his work is historical in focus, with an emphasis on the early 20th Century. He recently completed a book on the 1937 'Little Steel' Strike, a watershed moment in the course of the New Deal and the history of labor relations. He recently published another book, titled Under the Iron Heel, about repression and the destruction of the Industrial Workers of the World in the early Twentieth Century.
