Marianne Wesson is both a novelist and a legal scholar. Her most recent work is cross-genre, incorporating elements of both fiction and scholarship. The subjects of her published works have included capital punishment,victim advocacy, antigovernment militias, child pornography, among others. Her most recent book attempts to uncover the truth behind a nineteenth century mystery that formed the basis of one of the U.S. Supreme Court's most important decisions concerning the law of evidence. She recently published a study of capital punishment in the US in the 21st century, and is working on a novel that explores the future of execution in the United States. Her appointment as Schaden Chair of Experiential Learning led her to participate in conferences and exchanges directed at reform of the law school curriculum. In 2014, she has undertaken to participate in the reformulation of the law of sexual assault by the American Law Institute.
