research overview

  • As a vocal coach/collaborative pianist, Dr. Moteki performs with singers and instrumentalists, and gives master classes to singers and collaborative pianists in the U.S. and in other countries. She is particularly known for her efficient coaching that promotes beautiful singing and detailed interpretation of the music and the text. Her recent research focuses on introducing Japanese art song to American and other non-Japanese singers. She has co-created and co-edited 'Japanese Art Song Anthology' with Dr. Kumiko Shimizu of Delta State University. It is the first of its kind in the United States, and two volumes have been published by Classical Vocal Reprints. She is also expanding her interest to art songs from other Eastern Asian countries such as Korea and China. She has given several lecture-recitals on 'East Asian Art Songs' with Dr. JungWoo Kim, baritone and associate professor at Hope College.
