  • The course explores entangled history of China and Russia since the thirteenth century from comparative and transnational perspectives. Major topics covered in this class include but not limited to the rise and the evolution of autocratic rulership in both countries; their frontier interactions through Inner Asian border regions of Mongolia, Xinjiang and Manchuria; Russia and the communist revolution in China; political split between China and Soviet Union in 1960s and 1970s. Recommended prerequisites of HIST1618 and HIST1628.
