Research

research overview

  • I am a research scientist in the Laboratory of Atmospheric and Space Physics (LASP) at the University of Colorado in Boulder. My research activities are focused on plasma processes and the dynamics of boundaries around objects in the solar system. In my recent work, I have concentrated on ion kinetic processes and nonstationarity effects at Earth’s bow shock. I have been involved in analysis of returned data from several NASA missions including, Cassini, Rosetta (ESA+NASA), RBSP, MMS, THEMIS, and MAVEN. I combine spacecraft data analysis with theoretical models and numerical simulations and make model-observation comparisons when possible. This way, I am able to determine new physical processes that are currently missing in our understanding of various plasma environments.

Teaching

courses taught

  • ASTR 2600 - Introduction to Scientific Programming
    Secondary Instructor - Summer 2022
Introduces principles, methods and tools of scientific programming commonly used in research. Topics include an introduction to programming in Python, data structures, numerical methods for calculus and data manipulation/visualization. Techniques covered are relevant to many technical fields but emphasis is placed on application to problems in astronomy and planetary science. Class time is split between lectures and in-lab tutorials.
