  • Dr. Chatterjee’s research focuses on adopting integrated computational, systems and synthetic biology approaches to investigate fundamental, biotechnological, and medically relevant issues including, understanding the molecular mechanisms responsible for antibiotic and antiviral resistance, rational design of “next-generation smart antimicrobials,” and construction of synthetic genetic devices for a variety of biotechnological and bioenergy applications. Her group is also interested in studying genetic regulatory networks that control propagation of infectious diseases (such as Hepatitis C virus), evolution of antimicrobial resistance, and metabolic networks that control biofuel production. Using synthetic biology tools her group designs, constructs and engineers modular synthetic genetic devices that can achieve higher-order biological computation, in order to understand functioning of complex genetic networks as well as to build rules to manipulate such networks.
